David Karoly
- Climate Change on a global front

David is an honorary Professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne and a Councillor on the Climate Council. He is an internationally recognised expert on climate change science and climate variability.

He was Leader of the Earth Systems and Climate Change Hub in the Australian Government’s National Environmental Science Program, based in CSIRO during 2018-21 and was a member of the Climate Change Authority during 2012-17, which provides advice to the Australian government on responding to climate change, including targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Angie Bone - Climate change and human health

Angie is Associate Professor of Practice in Planetary Health at the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, Monash University and a member of Doctors for the Environment Australia.

She is a senior Public Health Physician originally from the UK with extensive experience in researching the health effects of high impact weather (extreme heat and cold, floods, drought) on health, and the effective measures to reduce health risks and increase population and institutional health resilience.

Angie brought this knowledge to her role as the former Deputy Chief Health Officer for Environment in Victoria. She is passionate about promoting optimal and equitable human health, without harming, and indeed restoring, the natural systems on which our health depends.

Sam Lundberg - Tackling climate change locally

Sam Lundberg is a 19-year-old local actively working to address climate change on the Mornington Peninsula.

He volunteers with Zero Positive, a non-profit youth organisation that leads initiatives to guide Australian schools towards emission neutrality while fostering positive mental attitudes towards climate action. Through Sam, ZeroPositive is currently working with Peninsula Grammar on a 5 year plan to become emissions neutral.

Sam was Peninsula Grammar’s 2022 School Captain and in addition to studying law and commerce at Monash University, he is also chairing the Melbourne branch for ZeroPositive’s subsidiary GenZero, a youth climate advisory board.

Warwick Beard - Local action to reduce carbon emissions

Warwick is a founding member of Mornington Peninsula Repower, a local community group helping households and businesses take action to reduce carbon emissions. He is a retired Primary School principal with a lifelong commitment to sustainability and environmental education.

Lucy Allinson - Local impacts of climate change - our Council’s response.

Lucy Allinson is Climate Change Team Leader at the Mornington Peninsula Shire.  She has been delivering energy and behaviour change programs in the private, not for profit and government sectors since 2007.

She was co-founder of the Bayside Climate Change Action Group and then focussed on the residential energy sector and in supporting energy equity for vulnerable populations. Programs she implemented  included Homes Victoria Energy Smart research program and Sustainability Victoria’s Healthy Homes Project. She also supported the development of the Victorian Adaptation Plan as part of the Department of Health Environment team.

Lucy’s objective at the Shire is to implement the Climate Emergency Plan, adopted in 2020 and her focus is on effective delivery, informed planning and empowering the community.
